Newfields Police
Department Community Programs
The Newfields Police Department firmly believes in the philosophy of community policing. Community
policing can accurately be defined as,
"a policing philosophy that promotes and
supports organizational strategies to address the causes and reduce the
fear of crime and social disorder through problem-solving tactics and
community-police partnerships."
(United States Department of Justice) We feel that it is important for
the police department to be involved with the community, especially with
the children and seniors.
Currently, Newfields Police Officers are
engaged in monthly community programs where Officers meet with the
children at either the Newfields Public Library or the Newfields
Elementary School for the purposes of reading a book, eating lunch, or
as we recently participated in, a game of chess. These types of
activities will help the children to get to know the various officers in
the department and will allow them to feel more comfortable approaching
an officer should there be a problem.

in a game of chess with Alex at the Newfields Public Library. It
appears he is losing!

excellent job playing chess. Officer McAulay is in he background

Helpful Hands
Program
So far this year, the Town of Newfields has experienced some extreme weather
conditions. Beginning with the deep freeze in February with the severe power
outages and frozen pipes in many homes, to the extraordinary amount of rain in
May and June which flooded roadways and many basements. After dealing with these
weather related ordeals, the Newfields Police, Fire and Emergency Management
Departments have been working together closely to create a response plan to
assist residents of Newfields should our town suffer similar or more severe
situations in the future. We have developed a new program called “Helpful
Hands”. This program offers interested community residents a little extra
attention during severe conditions. For more information, please click on the
"Helpful Hands Program" link below.
